Greek motorsport has been struck with sorrowful news following the terrible death of one of its biggest stars in a vehicle accident.
Costas Takidellis, a champion racer, died in the early hours of Wednesday morning after his car crashed over a bridge in Athens. Takidellis was a dirt racing champion in his native Greece.
And today’s tragic news sent shockwaves throughout Greece. According to national media, the 19-year-old was driving when his Ford Focus ST lost control on a bridge in Nea Ionia, north of Athens.
The truck smashed through the bridge’s protective barriers. Takidellis was killed when the plane plummeted upside down after crashing in mid-air. In the horrific aftermath, images showed horrified rescue personnel encircling the damaged automobile.
And it was subsequently revealed that a passenger, a 21-year-old guy, somehow survived the collision with critical injuries. Takidellis, who drove for Yacar Sport, has subsequently received tributes.
Only a year ago, the motor sensation won the Panhellenic Cross car Championship EKO Racing Dirt Games. His most recent race was in February in the FIA Rally Star event in Germany.
The Greek Motor Sports Association expressed its condolences in a heartfelt letter. “Good racing on the courses of heaven, Constantine,” it said.
“ASMA extends its deepest sympathies to his family.” “Perhaps he should be the final martyr of asphalt.”
