Jan Rot was a Dutch singer-songwriter who was well-known in the Netherlands for his many song translations, both mainstream and classic. He was born on December 25, 1957, in Makassar, and died on April 22, 2022, in Rotterdam.
His Dutch version of Bach’s St Matthew Passion topped the Dutch pop album charts in Easter 2006. Rot was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2021, yet he played until April of the following year.
He began a new professional path in the year 2000, first as a worldwide hit translation and interpreter, then as a repeater of classical music classics. As a result of his change, of course, he rose to notoriety. Others have referred to him as a “virtuoso her-talker” with a gold record.
In 1978, he began his musical career as a vocalist, leader, and songwriter with the bands Streetbeats and Ratata, but in 1982, he decided to go solo. He released the CD Single, which had a “novelty” repertoire of early pop tunes.
Jan Rot was diagnosed with cancerous growth in his intestine. The primary reason for Rot’s death was his intestinal cancer.
Rot became ill in April 2021 as a result of a tumor in his intestines. On July 31, 2021, he claimed that, regardless of the tumor’s removal, he was terminally ill due to metastases.
On April 22, 2022, the singer died in Rotterdam, surrounded by his family and friends.
