Singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, also known as KK, died this evening while performing in Kolkata (May 31). He was 53.

After the show, the playback singer fell and was transferred to a private hospital in the city. According to hospital officials, he was “taken dead” to Kolkata’s CMRI Hospital about 10 p.m.

Earlier today, the musician shared images from his gig at Kolkata’s Nazrul Mancha. KK, one of India’s most talented vocalists, has recorded songs in a variety of languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telegu, Kannada, and Bengali.

His wife and children survive him. People expressed shock and dismay at the singer’s unexpected demise on Twitter, with many expressing shock and disbelief.
