How Many Gold Gloves does Joey Gallo Have?
Joey Gallo has two Gold Gloves.
Joey Gallo has won an American League Gold Glove Award in right field for the second year in a row.
Gallo, who was traded from the Rangers to the Yankees at the trade deadline, has been rewarded for his exceptional defensive abilities. Gallo took home the same honor in Texas a year prior.
For this year’s award in right field, Hunter Renfroe of the Boston Red Sox and Kyle Tucker of the Houston Astros were the other two candidates.
Since Brett Gardner won a Gold Glove as a center fielder in 2016, no Yankees player has won a Gold Glove since Gallo this year.
Getting Yankees fans to like Gallo can be as simple as admitting how good he is on defense. Gallo had a dismal batting average of.160 (30-for-188) in 58 games while wearing the pinstripes. He appeared in 153 games in 2021, hitting.808 with 38 home runs, 111 walks, 213 strikeouts, and an OPS of.819.
The defense of Gallo didn’t falter even though his offensive stats were mediocre. On defense, the slugger was a constant force, whether it was through pinpoint throws or leaping grabs.
For most of his career, Gallo played in right field for the Yankees (83 games with the Rangers). While Gallo participated in just nine more games in right field, he appeared in left field 51 times.
