Around 11:30 p.m., gunfire erupted along with one of Philadelphia’s busiest dining, shopping, and entertainment districts, causing panic and sending people fleeing for safety. According to authorities, at least 14 people were shot in the neighborhood of Second and South Streets on Saturday, with three of them dying and 11 wounded.

Officers first heard multiple gunshots around Second and South Streets and saw multiple shooters, according to a police commander. Inspector D.F. Pace reported that a cop fired at one of the shooters who was still shooting a gun into the crowd and they are not sure if he was struck or not. According to Pace, the shooter had dropped the handgun, which had an extended magazine.

As part of their ongoing investigation, authorities are expecting to acquire security footage from adjacent businesses that were closed at the time of the incident on Sunday. The identities of the victims have not been found as of early Sunday morning but police have stated the victims included a 25-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man.

Two women and one man has been killed due to multiple gun wounds on their bodies after the shooting but the police are yet to make any arrests. Two handguns were discovered at the scene.

This incident has been recorded as the 239th massing shooting only this year according to the Gun Violence Archive in the U.S.
