José Alberto Pujols Alcántara, professionally called Albert Pujols is one of the professional baseball players in the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. Albert is from the Dominican Republic and was born on January 16, 1980.
Albert played high school baseball at Fort Osage High School. During his time there, he was named an All-State athlete twice. When he graduated from high school, he earned a baseball scholarship to Maple Woods Community College. After college, it took a while before he was drafted.
He was drafted in the 1999 MLB draft in the 13th round of the draft by the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. The Cardinals first offered to give him $10,000 as a signing bonus but he refused to sign with them saying the signing bonus was not enough.
The Cardinals then increased their bonus offer to $60,000 before he signed with them. He started his professional career in 2000 playing with the Peoria Chiefs of the single-A Midwest League. He was promoted to the major leagues by the Cardinals in 2001 and he made his MLB debut on April 2, 2001.
In May 2021, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Albert agreed to a one-year major league deal. He made his Dodgers debut that very day when they faced the Arizona Diamondbacks. Albert returned to play with the St Louis Cardinals in March 2022. He signed a one-year contract with them.
