Gordon Passed away on March 8, 2022. On Tuesday, the second day of the week, bad news arrives. Gordon Lee, a former American soccer player, died at the age of 87.
Gordon Francis Lee was a player and manager from England. In a 12-year career in the Football League, he played 120 league matches before moving on to management.
During his playing days, he was a right-back for Hednesford Town before joining Aston Villa in 1955.
Gordon Lee stayed with the “Villans” for the following eleven years, winning a Second Division title in 1959–60, a League Cup winner’s medal in 1961, and a League Cup runner-up medal in 1963.
In 1966, he made the switch from player to coach at Shrewsbury Town.
In 1968, he started his managerial career with Port Vale, and in 1969–70, he guided them to promotion from the Fourth Division.
In January 1974, he joined Blackburn Rovers and led them to the Third Division title the following season.
This earned him the position of manager of Newcastle United, where he led the club to the League Cup final in 1976. In January 1977, he was appointed manager of Everton, and later that year, he led them to the League Cup Final.
He was appointed manager of Preston North End after losing his job at Everton in May 1981, but he left two years later.
