Ladi Kwali, OON, MBE was a Nigerian potter. Ladi Kwali was born in the village of Kwali in the Gwari region of Northern Nigeria.
Born in the year 1925 in Kwali which happens to be in Nigeria, Ladi was said to have been brought up in a small village of Kwali, present Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.
Kwali is said to have made very huge pots that were used for multiple chores like water jars, cooking pots, bowls, and flasks from coils of clay, beaten from the inside with a flat wooden paddle.
Some of the pots were decorated in the forms of animals and other creatures including scorpions, lizards, crocodiles, chameleons, snakes, birds, and fish.
Kwali was the pioneer of African ceramic art modernism.
