Julio Daniel Martinez, known in baseball as J. D Martinez is a Cuban professional baseball player who plays the position of an outfielder and designated hitter for the Boston Red Sox baseball team of the Major League Baseball(MLB).
Martinez was born August 21, 1987, in Miami, Florida in the United States of America to Mayra Martinez and Julio Martinez. He began his amateur career at Flanagan High School in Pembroke Pines, Florida. He graduated from high school in 2006 after which he was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 36th round of the 2006 MLB draft. but he did not sign with them
Martinez rather chose to attend university. He, therefore, got l enrolled at Nova Southeastern University. He played college baseball for the Nova Southeastern Sharks baseball team from 2007 through 2009.
Right after his college education, the Houston Astros baseball team picked him in the 20th round of the 2009 amateur draft. He has the records of being the first player to be drafted from NSU to play in the major leagues, a four-time MLB All-Star selection award winner, a three-time Silver Slugger Award winner, and finally the only player to earn the latter honour twice in the same season. Martinez earns an annual salary of $23 million. His estimated net worth is $1.5 million.
