After their team won the conference championship, two collegiate baseball players were killed in a tragic head-on crash on a Georgia highway.

Stephen Bartolotta, 18, and Jacob Brown, 19, both freshmen baseball pitchers at LaGrange College, were killed in a car accident on Roanoke Road in LaGrange at around 9:15 p.m., the Georgia State Patrol reported.

In an attempt to pass a vehicle in front of him, Brown crossed the double yellow line, but instead struck a pickup truck traveling in the opposite way, according to authorities.

Rico Dunn, the 24-year-old driver of the pickup truck, was also killed in the collision. They were both pronounced dead on the spot.

When Dunn, who had just celebrated his sister’s birthday, was brought to a nearby hospital early on Sunday morning, it was too late to save him.

Their Division III team, the LaGrange College Panthers, had recently won their fifth consecutive USA South Tournament title by defeating North Carolina Wesleyan.

The Panthers secured a spot in the NCAA Division III national tournament with their victory.
