How old is Jay Groome?

Jay Groome is 23 years old. He was born on August 23, 1998.

Groome attended Barnegat High School in Barnegat Township, New Jersey, for his high school education.

As a freshman, he made the varsity baseball team, and as a sophomore, he pitched for the school’s baseball team and had a 6–2 win-loss record with a 0.57 earned run average (ERA) in 61+13 innings pitched.

Before his junior year, he transferred to the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, and committed to play college baseball at Vanderbilt University.

Groome went 5–0 with a 1.22 ERA in 43 innings as a junior, striking out 81 batters and walking nine.

Groome chose to return to Barnegat for his final year due to homesickness.

Groome was ineligible to pitch for Barnegat in April 2016 since the move did not include a change of address, according to the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association.

After 30 days or half of Barnegat’s games, he regained his eligibility.

Groome’s pitches are a 92–96 mph (148–154 km/h) fastball, a changeup, and a curveball.

He worked out for the Philadelphia Phillies, who had the first overall pick in the 2016 MLB Draft, and was a potential first overall pick.

Groome switched his collegiate commitment from Vanderbilt to Chipola College, a junior college in Florida, before the draft.
