Jeff Gladney was a two-time NFL cornerback. He attended TCU and was selected first overall in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings.
What Happened to Jeff Gladney?
According to various sources, Arizona Cardinals cornerback and offseason acquisition Jeff Gladney died on Monday at the age of 25.
Gladney’s agent, Brian Overstreet, told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and ESPN’s Adam Schefter that the young athlete perished in an automobile accident in the Dallas region on Monday morning.
“At this most difficult time, we are asking for prayers for the family and privacy,” Overstreet told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
The Cardinals issued a statement that reads as follows:
“We were heartbroken to learn about Jeff Gladney’s death. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and everyone else who is grieving this tragic loss.”
Gladney signed a two-year agreement with the Cardinals in March to join a defensive backfield that was in desperate need of help at cornerback.
On Twitter, some of Gladney’s old teammates also shared the news.
After four seasons at TCU, Gladney was drafted first overall by the Vikings in 2020. In 2019, he was named to the Horned Frogs’ first-team All-Big 12 team.
Gladney played 15 games with the Vikings as a rookie before being terminated due to an assault conviction. In March, he was acquitted of all charges and signed with the Cardinals.
Last week, Gladney was there and worked during the open portion of OTAs.
