Springs went to high school in Belmont, North Carolina, at South Point High School. To earn a degree in management, he attended Appalachian State University and played college baseball for the Mountaineers from 2012 to 2015.
The Texas Rangers selected Springs in the 30th round of the 2015 MLB Draft, and he signed a one-year, $1,000 contract with them.
