Joshua Owusu-Koramoah, the 23-year-old brother of Browns linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, was discovered dead in a burned-out house in Virginia on Tuesday.
Hampton Police Division, which earlier disclosed evidence of a fire inside the victim’s apartment, said Wednesday that detectives had elevated the situation to investigate a suspected homicide.
According to the Newport News Daily Press, Joshua, a science teacher at Hampton Christian High School, was planning to meet a buddy for breakfast the morning he was discovered dead.
When he didn’t respond to texts or phone calls, his friend rushed to his house, only to be met by emergency medical workers. According to the Hampton Police Division, police went to a complaint at about 10 a.m. Tuesday and discovered Owusu-Koramoah as well as indications of a fire inside the property.
Jeremiah, who grew up in Hampton with Joshua, was a Browns second-round choice in 2021, starting 11 games at linebacker and entering 2022 as one of Cleveland’s finest young defensive players.
He previously attributed his own football success to his brother, a former reserve linebacker at William & Mary. According to Cleveland.com, he is still slated to participate in the Browns’ offseason program, which begins next week, but the organization may excuse the second-year linebacker.
