In December 2015, the Astros acquired Arauz, 18, from the Phillies in the Ken Giles trade.

To begin the 2017 season, he was on the Astros’ low-A roster in Quad Cities.
MLB said that Jonathan Arauz, the Astros’ low-level shortstop prospect acquired in the Ken Giles deal, has been suspended for 50 games without pay after testing positive for methamphetamine.
Jonathan Arauz was not the only one who had been suspended indefinitely. According to Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area, the Nationals’ Emmanuel Burriss received a 50-game suspension.
The Giants’ Ty Ross and Cody Brickhouse were both placed on IR.
Because Arauz is technically on the roster of the Astros’ low-A Quad Cities affiliate, his suspension will take effect when the Midwest League season begins. Coming into the season, Baseball America ranked Arauz as the Astros’ 17th-best prospect.
The switch-hitting Jonathan Arauz batted .249 with a.323 on-base percentage and a .338 slugging percentage in 201 at-bats with rookie-level Greeneville last season, primarily at shortstop but also a second.
