Josh Staumont, the Royals’ number #24 prospect, was a high draft pick in June of 2015 following a dominant season at Azusa Pacific University in which he struck out 109 hitters in just 68 2/3 innings.

He went on to pitch successfully for the Arizona Royals and Idaho Falls Chukars, finishing the season with a 2.48 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 40 innings.

Staumont was called up to the Northwest Arkansas Naturals after struggling in 2016 at the A+ level with the Wilmington Blue Rocks, where he was 2-10 with a 5.05 ERA.

In 11 starts, he settled down, dropping his ERA by two points and cutting 0.21 off his WHIP.

That year, he continued his seasoning in the Arizona Fall League, where he battled against other top prospects from all over baseball.

His WHIP was a solid 1.29 in seven starts, as he struck out more batters than total innings pitched once again.

As he made the move to Omaha in the middle of the summer, he split 2017 between the AA and AAA levels.

Staumont struggled to acclimatize to the Pacific Coast League, finishing with an ERA of over 6 in the highest level of minor league baseball.
