He began his non-professional career by playing baseball for the La Habra High School in La Habra, California where he attended high school and at the university, he played college baseball for Biola University and Azusa Pacific University.

Josh won a league title in 2014 when he played in collegiate summer baseball in the Cape Cod Baseball League. In 2015, Josh was lucky to be drafted by the Kansas City Royals during the second round of the 2015 MLB draft.

In 2015, he made his professional debut with the Arizona League Royals, an affiliate to the Royals after which he was promoted to the Idaho Falls Chukars. During the 2016 season, Josh split his time and pitched for both the Wilmington Blue Rocks and Northwest Arkansas Naturals.

Josh in 2017, played out the 2017 season with both Northwest Arkansas and the Omaha Storm Chasers where he recorded a 6-12 with a 5.56 ERA with 138 strikeouts in 124.2 total innings pitched between the two teams.

Josh got married in January 2019 to Angelina. In July that same year, he was promoted to the major leagues and five days after his promotion, which was July 25, 2019, he made his MLB debut for the Royals.
