Manuel Margot Gomez is a Dominican professional baseball center fielder for the Tampa Bay Rays of Major League Baseball. He was born on September 28, 1994, in San Cristóbal, Dominican Republic.
He was previously with the San Diego Padres.
Margot was signed as an international free agent from the Dominican Prospect League by the Boston Red Sox in July 2011, for a rumored bonus of $800,000.
In the 2012 season, he began his professional career with the Rookie Level Dominican Summer League Red Sox at the age of 17.
Margot received Red Sox Minor League Latin Program Player of the Year honors in his professional debut, batting.285/.382/.423 with 38 stolen bases in just 68 games, earning him a position on the DSL All-Star team.
In the DSL, he was regarded as a patient batter who walked more than he struck out (36-to-25 in 260 at-bats).
For the 2013 season, Margot was the youngest regular in Short-Season A New York–Penn League history with the Lowell Spinners after moving up two levels.
He had a .254/.343/.307 batting average in his first 15 games with Lowell before he was sidelined for the rest of the season with a hamstring injury.
