Mike Hagerty, who featured on Friends, Cheers, The George Carlin Show, and Curb Your Enthusiasm, died on Thursday at the age of 67.
Bridget Everett, who appears in HBO’s Somebody Somewhere, announced his death on Instagram on Friday. “The family of Michael G. Hagerty announced his death yesterday in Los Angeles with deep regret.”
“As a beloved character actor, his love of his city of Chicago, as well as his family, were the pillars of his life,” she wrote. There was no mention of a cause of death.
In the HBO comedy, which was revived for a second season earlier this year, Hagerty plays Everett’s character Sam’s father. He is recognized for his thick mustache, Chicagoan accent, and welcoming grin.
“I fell in love with Mike the moment I met him. He was one of a kind. “He was kind and amusing, and he never met a stranger,” Everett wrote. “We are heartbroken that he has died. The whole cast and crew of Somebody Somewhere admired Mike. “Our hearts go out to his wife and family.”
Between 1983 and 2020, Hagerty starred in a number of films, including Brewster’s Millions, So I Married an Axe Murderer, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, Inspector Gadget, Rampage: The Hillside Strangler Murders, and Thin Ice. He also appeared as a recurrent character on Lucky Louie. Mary Kathryn, Hagerty’s wife, and Mary Ann, his sister, survive him.
