Mike Zunino Debut: Did Mike Zunino Get a Hit on his MLB Debut?

Mike Zunino, the Mariners’ catcher, batted sixth and went 1 for 4 in his major-league debut.

Mike Zunino made his  Mariners debut on Wednesday, to mixed results. Zunino’s promotion from Triple-A had Seattle fans buzzing, though not as much as Gerrit Cole’s debut.

In a 6-1 loss to the Houston Astros, Zunino batted No. 6 and went 1-for-4 with a single and a strikeout.

On June 28, against the Chicago Cubs, Zunino hit his first career walk-off home run. Zunino injured his hand on July 25 and was placed on the 15-day disabled list.

He returned in early September and finished the season with the majority of the starts. He hit.214/.290/.329 with five home runs and 14 RBIs in 52 games with the Mariners.

In 2014, Zunino hit.199 with 22 home runs, but he struck out 158 times and only walked 17 times, for a.254 on-base percentage.

Zunino was demoted to Triple-A Tacoma in August 2015. At the time, he was hitting.174 with 132 strikeouts in 112 games played, and he spent the final month of the season at AAA.

Zunino started the 2016 season in AAA after signing Chris Iannetta. He was brought up for a brief stint in late June, but he was sent back to the minors in early July.

In 55 games, he had a.207 batting average with 12 home runs. In 2017, Zunino set career highs offensively in every statistical offensive category.
