The death of iconic kit man Jimmy Bell has been confirmed by the Rangers.
Bell was a friend and confidant to multiple generations of players and staff at Ibrox for almost 30 years.
Bell will be “sorely missed by everyone” at Rangers, according to the club.
Bell, a former Parks’ of Hamilton employee, began his Rangers career driving the team buses to matches across the country before going on to his current position as first-team director of kit.
“As a club, we are profoundly devastated to learn of the passing of our colleague and, more importantly, our close friend, Jimmy Bell,” Rangers chairman Douglas Park said.
Bell established a cult following among Rangers supporters and was regarded as a key figure over the club’s many managerial eras.
In a statement, Douglas Park said, “As a club, we are profoundly devastated to learn of the demise of our colleague and, more importantly, our good friend, Jimmy Bell.”
“Jimmy gave his entire life to the Rangers Football Club.” Working under managers ranging from Graeme Souness to Giovanni, he witnessed some of the most memorable moments in our 150-year history.
Of course, he was present at some of the lowest periods, and he demonstrated unselfish dedication regardless of the task at hand.
