McGuire, Harold Ramirez, and pitcher Francisco Liriano were moved from the Pirates to the Toronto Blue Jays on August 1, 2016, in exchange for pitcher Drew Hutchison.
In 15 games and 53 at-bats, he batted .226 with five RBI for the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
After sustaining a torn meniscus in his right knee, which required arthroscopic surgery to correct, he returned to the Fisher Cats for the 2017 season but was limited to only 45 games.
After sustaining a knee injury in early May, McGuire was able to return to Double-A in early August, and his three consecutive home runs earned him Eastern League Player of the Week honors for the week ending August 20.
McGuire hit .295 with six home runs and 28 RBI in 149 plate appearances in 2017.
McGuire was added to Toronto’s 40-man roster on November 20, 2017. In 2018, he was a member of the Buffalo Bisons of the Class AAA International League.
McGuire was promoted to the major leagues by the Blue Jays on September 6, 2018. That night, he made his MLB debut against the Cleveland Indians, and he hit his first career double in the game.
On September 26, he blasted his first career home run against the Houston Astros.
