Rob Manfred is an American. He was born in Rome, New York, United States
Robert D. Manfred Jr. is the ninth and current Commissioner of Major League Baseball. He is an American lawyer and business leader.
He previously worked as Major League Baseball’s chief operating officer before succeeding Bud Selig as a commissioner on January 25, 2015.
Manfred graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1976. From 1976 to 1978, Manfred attended Le Moyne College before moving to Cornell University.
In 1980, Rob Manfred received his Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University, and in 1983, he received his Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School, where he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review.
Rob Manfred clerked for Judge Joseph L. Tauro of the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts from 1983 to 1984 after graduating from law school.
After that, he went to work for Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, where he specialized in labor and employment law.
During union negotiations, Rob Manfred began working with Major League Baseball (MLB) in 1987. He was the owners’ outside counsel during the 1994–95 MLB strike.
In 1998, he was hired full-time by MLB as the Executive Vice President of Economics and League Affairs.
