Ryan Thompson is an American professional baseball pitcher whose style of play is the submarine-style pitcher. Thompson was born June 26, 1992, in Turner, Oregon, United States.
He attended Cascade High School in his birth town and played college baseball at Chemeketa Community College and Campbell University. In 2013, he briefly played collegiate summer baseball for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks of the Cape Cod Baseball League.
He was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 23rd round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft. He played in the Astros system through 2017 but an injury kept him out of the games in 2018 and reached as high as the AAA Fresno Grizzlies.
During the minor league phase of the 2018 Rule 5 draft, Thompson was chosen by the Tampa Bay Rays. He made Ray’s Opening Day roster in 2020. Thankfully on July 24, 2020, he made his MLB debut.
