Baz’s parents are Raj, a Lebanese father, and Tammy, an American mother. His father was born in Beirut, Lebanon, and grew up playing soccer in his home country before immigrating to the United States when he was 15 years old.
Baz went to Concordia Lutheran High School in Tomball, Texas, for his secondary education. As a junior, he posted a 1.06 earned run average (ERA) across 23 innings pitched, striking out 46 batters.
This past summer, Baz was a member of the United States national team. In order to play collegiate baseball, Baz has committed to Texas Christian University (TCU).
The Pittsburgh Pirates selected him with the 12th overall pick in the 2017 Major League Baseball draft, despite the fact that he was considered one of the top prospects in the draft. He officially signed with the Pirates a few days after being selected in the first round.
Baz was named to the squad of the United States national baseball team for the 2020 Summer Olympics, which was held in Tokyo in 2021. His team took home the silver medal after falling to Japan in the gold-medal match.
