Shane McClanahan Draft: When was Shane McClanahan Drafted?

Shane McClanahan was first drafted in 2015. The New York Mets selected him in the 26th round of the MLB draft.

McClanahan did not sign with the Mets and instead chose to play college baseball at USF. Following Tommy John’s surgery, McClanahan did not play his rookie year at USF in 2016.

As a redshirt freshman, he returned from injury to start 15 games in 2017, going 4–2 with a 3.20 ERA with 104 strikeouts in 76 innings.

In the 2018 Major League Baseball draft, the Tampa Bay Rays picked McClanahan with the 31st overall pick. He received a $2,230,100 signing bonus from the Rays.

In mid-August, he was promoted to the Princeton Rays after making his professional debut with the GCL Rays. He did not allow a run in seven innings pitched between the two clubs.

He began the 2019 season with the Bowling Green Hot Rods, where he started on Opening Day and was named to the Midwest League All-Star team.

He was promoted to the Charlotte Stone Crabs in June after going 4–4 with a 3.40 ERA and 74 strikeouts in 53 innings pitched in 11 outings (10 starts).

McClanahan was added to the Rays’ Wild Card roster before their September 29th, 2020 series against the Toronto Blue Jays and was added to the 40-man roster as a result of this.
