Shane Peter McClanahan is a pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays of Major League Baseball. 2020 was the year he made his MLB debut.

Until the age of five, McClanahan lived his entire life in Baltimore, Maryland, where he was born. In Cape Coral, Florida, he attended Cape Coral High School.

While pitching in high school, he was 29-7, had a 1.02 ERA, and struck out 187 opposing batters in 123 innings. New York Mets selected him in the 26th round of the MLB draft in 2015.

However, he chose not to sign with the Mets and instead went on to play collegiate baseball at the University of South Florida (USF).

After having Tommy John surgery as a freshman at USF in 2016, McClanahan was unable to play.

As a redshirt freshman in 2017, he started 15 games and went 4-2 with a 3.20 ERA with 104 strikeouts in 76 innings after returning from injury. In 14 appearances as a redshirt sophomore, he went 5-6 with a 3.42 ERA.

McClanahan was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays with the 31st overall pick in the 2018 MLB draft. The Rays paid him a signing bonus of $2,230,100 when he signed with them.
