The president of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Khalifa has passed away today at the age of 73. He was the supreme commander of the United Arab Emirates and the emir of Abu Dhabi. He had been serving the country since 2004. He was also the petroleum council chairman since the late 1980s.
Sheikh Khalifa was born on September 7 1948 at Qasr AlMuwaiji, Al Ain and he passed in the early hours of today May 13, 2022. He was born to parents Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan and Hassa Bint Mohammed Al Nahyan. Sheikh was the second president of the United Arab Emirates and held office from November 3, 2004, till his passing.
Khalifa was the crown prince at the time of his father’s death, he succeeded his father and had been the ruler since. During his reign, he was seen as one of the richest monarchs in the world where he controlled 97.8 billion barrels of oil reserves. He was the chairman of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority which manages $875 billion assets, which is the largest amount managed by any state in the world. In 2018 he was named as one as one of the most powerful people in the world with his family fortune worth $150 billion.
The cause of Sheikh Khalifa’s death is currently unknown.But reports shows that the president and ruler had battled with stroke and had undergone surgery a decade see after he became president. This had made him unable to perform most of his executive duties or step out in public. He is being succeeded by his half brother, Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nayhan who is currently the crown prince of Abu Dhabi and acting as the de facto head of state.
