Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins passed away at the age of 50, the band announced in a statement.

He was found dead while the band was on tour in South America. Their set was supposed to take place on Friday night in Bogota, Colombia, during a music festival.

 

His death was described by the band as a “tragic and unexpected loss” in a statement, but no other information was immediately available.
As a former Nirvana drummer, Hawkins has been a member of the Foo Fighters since Dave Grohl, the band’s frontman, hired him in 1997.

“My Hero” and “Best of You” were two of his most popular songs, as well as the band’s best-selling albums, “One by One” and “On Your Honor,” respectively.

Foo Fighters’ newest horror-comedy film, ‘Studio 666,’ starred him as a supporting actor.

Grohl calls Hawkins his “brother from another mother, my dearest buddy, a man for whom I would take a bullet” in his 2021 book “The Storyteller.”

With every song, every note, every day that we shared, we grew closer to each other,” Grohl said in a statement. “We are intended to be together, and I am pleased that we did so in this lifetime.”

Hawkins also worked as a drummer for Alanis Morissette before joining the band.
