Is Tyler Zuber Good?

Zuber was taken in the sixth round by the Royals three years ago out of Arkansas State in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He was nearly untouchable during his senior season with the Red Wolves.

Zuber had a 2.06 ERA in 52.1 innings pitched, with 80 strikeouts (13.8 SO/9) and only 16 walks. He also had a WHIP of 0.860 and a total of six saves.

That final season turned out to be a huge step up from his previous three. After a 2-1 record with a 2.34 ERA in 42.1 innings as a freshman, Zuber went on to have a 3.54 ERA as a sophomore and a 6.59 ERA as a junior.

His WHIP was higher than 1.00 in each of those three years, and his SO/9 was lower.

With the Burlington Royals, Zuber got his first taste of pro ball in the Royals’ system less than two weeks later.

He didn’t miss a beat in Rookie Ball, striking out 38 batters in 25 innings, with six saves and a 2.16 ERA. Prior to the season’s finish, his success earned him a promotion to Class-A Lexington in August.

Zuber spent the first three months of the next season in Lexington but was promoted to High-A Wilmington after striking out nearly 15 batters per nine innings in the South Atlantic League.

Zuber moved from Wilmington to Double-A Northwest Arkansas after having a 1.23 ERA and 0.92 WHIP in 29.1 innings to begin 2019.

With the Naturals, he finished the season with a career-low 0.885 WHIP, over 10 strikeouts per nine innings, and 10 saves.
