What Happened to Brady Singer?
Singer was forced to leave the Indians game due to an arm injury.
The Royals revealed later in the series opener at Kauffman Stadium that the right-hander had been diagnosed with right upper arm pain.
Singer and his manager, Mike Matheny, were less concerned after the initial imaging on Tuesday night than when he walked off the mound two outs into the game.
Before exiting, Singer allowed three runs, with the first four Cleveland batters reaching on a double, walk, and two straight singles before inducing a double-play.
Singer threw a slider in a 2-2 count against Bradley Zimmer and grimaced as he finished the pitch.
Merrifield dashed to the mound at that point, and as Matheny approached the mound, Merrifield started shaking his head. Before entering the Royals’ clubhouse, Singer spoke briefly with Matheny and Kenney.
Singer claimed he’d suffered from soreness before, missing three weeks earlier this season due to right shoulder fatigue, but he’d been able to throw through it a few times.
He couldn’t shake the ache he felt on the last two sliders he threw on Tuesday.
Singer is scheduled to throw the Royals’ final game of the 2021 season on Sunday at Kauffman Stadium against the Twins, but the club has yet to confirm their weekend rotation plans.
