What Happened to Francisco Mejia?

After testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs (PED), Meja was suspended for the first 80 games of the 2015 season.

Mejia tested positive for Stanozolol and Boldenone, according to MLB. His first suspension, which began on April 11, was for 80 games due to a positive Stanozolol test. MLB’s list of restricted substances includes both anabolic steroids.

After a second failed test, he received his second suspension in July 2015. In February 2016, he tested positive for the third time, culminating in his permanent suspension from MLB.

Francisco Mejia became the first player to be permanently suspended three times for breaching MLB’s drug policy.

Meja later applied for reinstatement, as permitted by MLB’s drug policy, and was approved by Commissioner Rob Manfred in July.

Mejia has one year after his lifetime punishment was handed down to ask for reinstatement to commissioner Rob Manfred under the joint drug agreement between MLB and the MLB Players Association.

Even if Mejia’s reinstatement is accepted, he will have to wait at least two years before pitching in Major League Baseball again.

From 2010 to 2015, Mejia pitched with the Mets over portions of five seasons. In 2014, he had his best season, saving 28 games and striking out 98 batters in 93.2 innings.
