Ryan Thompson is an American professional baseball pitcher whose style of play is the submarine-style pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays of the Major League Baseball (MLB).

Thompson attended Cascade High School in Turner, Oregon, and played college baseball at Chemeketa Community College and Campbell University.

Born on June 26, 1992, he briefly played collegiate summer baseball for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks of the Cape Cod Baseball League.

During the minor league phase of the 2018 Rule 5 draft, Thompson was chosen by the Tampa Bay Rays. He made Ray’s Opening Day roster in 2020. Thankfully on July 24, 2020, he made his MLB debut.

The Houston Astros was the first baseball team to draft  Ryan Thompson in the 23rd round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft.

He played in the Astros system through 2017, as an injury kept him out in 2018, and reached as high as the AAA Fresno Grizzlies.

What Happened to Ryan Thompson?

Somewhere in 2021, Thompson was shut down in late June due to right shoulder inflammation and was later placed on the 60-day injured list.  His injury got worse and was announced to undergo surgery to address thoracic outlet syndrome.

Thompson hasn’t shown up since June 27, when he arrived on the harmed list with what the group at first named shoulder irritation.

He left upon a small-time recovery task in mid-August yet evidently kept on managing issues that will require a careful fix. He’s now on the 60-day injury list.
