What Happened to Wandy Peralta?

Peralta did not appear in many games for the Giants, but he was an important component of the team’s trade with the Yankees. Peralta was claimed off waivers by the San Francisco Giants on September 7, 2019.

In eight bullpen appearances for the Giants in 2019, he has a 3.18 ERA and a 0–0 record.

The Yankees acquired Giants pitcher Wily Peralta as part of the Mike Tauchman trade in April and had high hopes for the southpaw.

Although Mike Harkey assured the squad that Peralta would close out games as a high-leverage reliever so late in the season, it’s reasonable to say that this team did not have that expectation.

Peralta was named to the Cincinnati Reds’ Opening Day roster in 2017. It was against the St. Louis Cardinals on April 30, 2017, that he earned his first major league victory. His 2017 season saw him go 3–4 with a 3.76 earned run average in 64+23 innings pitched across 69 games.

The following season, he battled with control and consistency, going 2–2 with the Cincinnati Reds while walking and striking out 31 batters in 45 13 innings, compiling a 5.36 earned run average.

In 13 games for the Class A Louisville Flyers, he was 1–0 with a 3.14 ERA in 14.1 innings pitched. He was also named to the All-Star Game.
