Joan Joyce is a legendary softball player. Joyce had a decorated playing career in softball as one of the sport’s pioneers and is currently in the midst of a long college coaching career at Florida Atlantic.
Joyce has led Florida Atlantic to 12 conference titles and 11 NCAA Tournament invitations throughout her tenure as head coach. But Joyce’s softball journey began long before she became a coach.
She is a Connecticut native and former multi-sport athlete who has an extensive list of athletic accomplishments that includes admission into 20 different halls of fame.
Joyce’s illustrious softball career began with her father. Joyce’s mother worked the 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. shift, thus her father was responsible for babysitting her and her brother at that time.

She holds the record for “fewest putts in a round (17) for both the LPGA and the PGA” in golf. Joyce also competed in basketball and volleyball,
where she was a standout performer in both sports. She was a four-time All-American for the Women’s Basketball Association and established the national tournament single-game scoring record with 67 points in 1964.
She was a member of the Connecticut Clippers of the United States Volleyball Association as both a player and a coach.
