What’s Going on with Kevin Kiermaier?

According to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times, Kiermaier had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee on Wednesday. Kiermaier had surgery to repair a slight meniscus tear, but he should be back to full activity in 4-6 weeks.

According to reports, the knee problem was not the consequence of a fresh injury.

Manager Kevin Cash said Kiermaier’s right knee discomfort had been “bothering him a little bit” when he pulled him from a game on Aug. 7 against Boston in Boston.

After sitting out the first two games, Kiermaier played one inning of defense in the third game before returning to the starting lineup.

Team orthopedist Dr. Koco Eaton performed the operation in St. Petersburg on what is essentially a shock absorber in the knee.

Kiermaier is set to begin rehab on Friday and is expected to return to full activity in four to six weeks, according to the team.

In the final year of his contract, Kiermaier, 31, will earn $12 million. The Rays have a $2.5 million buyout option on their $13 million 2023 contract.

While playing in the regular season, he batted 259 with four home runs and 37 runs batted in and is a finalist for his fourth Gold Glove.
