When did Jameson Taillon get Drafted?

Jameson Taillon was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2010  as the second overall pick.

Fangraphs ranked Taillon as the top high school pitcher since Josh Beckett before the 2010 MLB draft. In Baseball America, he was compared to Stephen Strasburg-type pitchers.

Taillon was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates as the second overall pick in the draft. To put the Pirates on notice, in November 2009, he signed a National Letter of Intent with Rice University.

Although the deadline for signing free agents had passed, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette revealed that Jameson Taillon had actually signed with the Pirates just hours earlier.

For Taillon, the $6.5 million signing bonus was the second-highest in draft history, according to Baseball America’s Jim Callis.

When Taillon was called up to the Pirates on June 8, they opted to push back Francisco Liriano’s start one day after they had played a doubleheader the day before.

Taillon made his first appearance for the Pirates that day. Taillon made his major league debut against fellow 2010 first rounder Noah Syndergaard, pitching six innings and allowing three runs on six hits, two walks, and three strikeouts in a 6–5 loss.

On June 14, Taillon made his second start, this time against the Mets, pitching eight scoreless innings and carrying a no-hitter into the seventh inning when Curtis Granderson broke it up, earning his first win in the 4–0 triumph.
