Luis Severino is a Dominican professional baseball pitcher for the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball (MLB).
He made his MLB debut in 2015. After a rough 2016 season, he broke out as one of the league’s best pitchers in 2017, being named an All-Star and finishing third in the American League Cy Young Award vote.
He was also named an All-Star in 2018. He missed most of the 2019 season and all of the 2020 season due to shoulder injuries.
Severino signed with the New York Yankees as a worldwide free specialist on December 26, 2011, settling on a $225,000 signing bonus.
He had consented to terms to sign with the Colorado Rockies, yet a Yankees scout matched their deal and persuaded Severino to play for the group he had grown up as a fanatic of.
At that point, he could toss his fastball at 91 miles each hour (146 km/h). He made his expert presentation for the Dominican Summer League (DSL) Yankees 1 that year.
He began 14 games, pitching to a 4-2 win-misfortune record with a 1.68 procured run normal (ERA) and 45 strikeouts in 64+1⁄3 innings.
He began 2013 with the DSL Yankees 1 and was elevated to the Charleston RiverDogs of the Class A South Atlantic League during the season.
He completed 4-2 with a 2.45 ERA, 53 strikeouts north of 44 innings in 10 games (eight starts).[4] His fastball speed arrived at 97 miles each hour (156 km/h) at Charleston.
When was the Last time Severino Pitched?
However, the Yankees, fighting for their playoff lives, hope the 27-year-old can bring his past dominance to the bullpen in a variety of ways.
A top-three Cy Young finisher in 2017, Luis Severino last pitched in relief in 2016, another campaign hindered by injuries. “Sevy could be in a lot of different roles,” Boone said. Severino was activated off the injury list for the first time in 706 days.
