Where did the Red Sox get Arauz From?
The Red Sox had Jonathan Arauz from the Houston Astros in Rule 5 draft.
Jonathan Arauz made his Major League Baseball debut with the Boston Red Sox on July 24, 2020, in the team’s first game of the 2020 season, batting as a pinch hitter against the Baltimore Orioles.
Araz had a batting average of the 2020 Red Sox. In 25 games, he batted .250 with one home run and nine RBIs.
Jonathan Araz achieved his main aim of the season, which was to stay on the squad all year, and while he struggled with consistency when playing, he also showed some promising signs for a young player with little experience above High-A prior to this season.
Although Araz was able to stay on the major-league squad for the entire season, however, didn’t necessarily put up eye-popping numbers in his first taste of major-league action.
Arauz had a wRC+ of 78 at the end of the season, which was 22 percent below league average.
Despite just having 28 games above High-A, he showed a patient approach at the plate, indicating he wasn’t panicking at the plate.
Araz walked 10% of the time in his 80 plate appearances this season, an impressive rate for a player of his caliber.
