TODD KALAS

The 2022 Astros season will be Todd Kalas’ sixth as the team’s television play-by-play announcer. For 28 seasons in broadcasting in professional baseball, his father, Hall of Famer, and ex-Astros commentator

As a member of the Tampa Bay Rays TV broadcast team, Todd spent the previous 19 seasons (1998-2016) before joining the Houston Astros in 2017.

While he was primarily a pre-and post-game presenter and in-game reporter for the Rays, Kalas also performed play-by-play responsibilities for hundreds of Rays games on television and radio.

As a result of his efforts on the broadcasts, Kalas became a popular figure among Rays fans and was a three-time Suncoast Emmy award winner.

Previously, he worked for the New York Mets radio (from 1992 to 1993) and Philadelphia Phillies television (from 1994 to 1996) broadcast teams.

GEOFF BLUM

In 2022, Geoff Blum returns to the Astros TV broadcast team for his ninth season, his sixth as the team’s regular color analyst.

In 2013, Blum, a former infielder who spent 14 seasons in the Major Leagues (1999-2012), made the switch from the field to the broadcast booth.

Blum spent five seasons with the Astros during his playing career, two of which were spent with the team (2002-03, 2008-10).

Blum slugged .259 with 228 RBI, 46 home runs, 77 doubles, and a.711 OPS during his time with the Astros.

On February 13, 2013, Robert Ford was added to the Astros radio broadcast crew as a play-by-play commentator alongside Steve Sparks. On the Astros radio show, he is entering his eighth season.

As a radio broadcaster for the Kansas City Royals since 2009, Ford hosted pre-and postgame shows for the team’s flagship station 610 AM KCSP.

He has seven years of broadcasting experience in minor league baseball, having worked for the Binghamton Mets, Kalamazoo Kings, and Yakima Bears.

He has called more than 800 games. Two times, Ford was recognized as the best Frontier League broadcaster (2003 and 2004).

In addition, he has worked as a college basketball play-by-play announcer for ESPN for the previous two seasons.

STEVE SPARKS

On February 13, 2013, Steve Sparks was added to the Astros radio broadcast crew as a color commentator to work with Robert Ford. On the Astros radio show, he is entering his eighth season.

A one-time major league knuckleballer, Sparks played for nine different teams in the Major Leagues between 1995 and 2004.

A career-high 14 wins and a 3.65 earned run average in 35 appearances (33 starts) while pitching for the Detroit Tigers in 2001 set an MLB record for most complete games (eight).

In addition, he threw 232.0 innings, which was a career high for him.
