Who is Johnny Fripp

John D. Fripp was born on February 11, 1921, and It’s possible that Fripp is the oldest living player in the whole Canadian Football League, as he’s the oldest surviving member of the Ottawa Rough Riders alumni club.

A 30-year career in racing and teaching earned him induction into the Canadian Ski Hall of Fame, making him a greater skier than a football player. (Also, he served in the Second World War, and he survived.)

As the eldest of a family of three, Fripp was raised in Ottawa, Canada. Herbert Fripp founded H.D. Fripp & Son Ltd., an insurance and real estate company, in 1923. After his football career ended, John stepped in to run the company in 1950.

In 1941, Fripp began his career with the Riders as a member of the Glebe Collegiate team. A new game was not only another era.

These “amateur” sportsmen wore leather helmets, played roles like “Flying Wing,” and were paid $10 or $15 per game.

In spite of his little stature and hefty 180-pound frame, Fripp was widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time.
