Who Is Matthias Rimml?
Matthias Rimml, an Austrian mountain hiker, has been missing since Saturday, April 30, 2022, when he was last spotted soloing North America’s tallest peak. Friends and family have reported him missing.
By rangers and other search parties, he has tragically been found dead on Denali in Alaska.
What Happened To Matthias Rimml?
It appears like Matthias may have fallen when traversing between Denali Pass and the 17,200-foot plateau, a particularly dangerous section of the West Buttress path,” according to the rangers.
Rangers say that 12 other climbers have died in falls while traversing the route. In order to recover Matthias’ body, a rescue team will need to become accustomed to the high altitude.
Nearly 240 miles north of Anchorage, Alaska, stands Denali, a 20,310-foot peak. According to a previous news release, Matthias began his journey on April 27 after acclimating to the peak.
In a press statement, he stated that he expected to climb alpine style “or move rapidly with reasonably light gear,” completing the climb in around five days.
Supplies for a month were in his backpack. His acquaintance reported him to be at 18,200 feet on the West Buttress on April 30, according to park officers. Although Rimml was feeling a little worn out, he was not in any trouble.
According to rangers, the top elevations had daytime temperatures of between 25-30 degrees below zero. As other climbers and rangers acclimatized at base camp, Matthias was the only one on the peak.
