Ryan Yarbrough attended Old Dominion University located in Norfolk, Virginia.
Yarbrough began his college career in 2011 at Santa Fe College before moving to Old Dominion University the following semester.
In 2013 and 2014, Ryan Yarbrough pitched for the Old Dominion Monarchs. He was picked in the 20th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers, but he did not sign.

Yarbrough was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the fourth round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft. During his time with the Pulaski Mariners, Yarbrough made his professional debut.
After two games with the Everett AquaSox, he was promoted to the major league club. Over the course of the season, he appeared in 14 games (10 starts) and posted a 1.27 earned run average (ERA) while striking out 58 batters in 42+2/3 innings.
In 2015, he appeared in 22 games for the AZL Mariners, Clinton LumberKings, and Bakersfield Blaze, compiling a total 4–8 record with a 4.10 earned run average during his three seasons in the league.
The previous season, he pitched for the Jackson Generals, where he went 12–4 with a 2.95 earned run average and a 1.11 earned run average in 25 games started.
