Manuel Margot is a Dominican. He was born in San Cristóbal in the Dominican Republic.

In the 2012 season, he began his professional career with the Rookie Level Dominican Summer League Red Sox at the age of 17.

Margot received Red Sox Minor League Latin Program Player of the Year honors in his professional debut, batting.285/.382/.423 with 38 stolen bases in just 68 games, earning him a position on the DSL All-Star team.

In the DSL, he was regarded as a patient batter who walked more than he struck out (36-to-25 in 260 at-bats).

In 2014, Margot was a member of the South Atlantic League’s Low A Greenville Drive.

He hit.282/.362/.418 in his first 99 games for Greenville, with 10 home runs and 45 RBIs, while leading the Drive with 105 hits and 61 runs scored, and topping the Red Sox organization with 39 stolen bases.

He also topped the Red Sox minor league system with 42 stolen bases. It was only the latest chapter in what, despite his youth, had been a very successful season in the organization.

As a result, he moved up the MLB.com Top 20 Boston Red Sox Prospects list from No. 11 to No. 4.
