Andrew Woolfolk was an American saxophonist. Andrew played in the United States School in Orleans, France school band during his father’s military deployment.
Woolfolk was a founding member of Earth, Wind, and Fire. Deniece Williams, Stanley Turrentine, Phil Collins, Twentynine, Philip Bailey, and Level 42 were among the musicians with whom he cooperated.
Woolfolk was a student at Denver’s East High School. He became a long-time member of Earth, Wind & Fire after joining the band as a saxophonist in 1972.
As a member of Earth, Wind & Fire, Woolfolk was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999.
The Colorado Music Hall of Fame inducted Woolfolk in 2017.
Woolfolk also played saxophone on Valerie Carter’s 1977 album Just a Stone’s Throw Away, Deniece Williams’ 1977 LP Song Bird, Twennynine’s 1979 album Best of Friends, and Stanley Turrentine’s 1981 LP Tender Togetherness, in addition to his work with EW&F.
He went on to participate in Level 42’s Standing in the Light in 1983, Philip Bailey’s Grammy-nominated LP The Wonders of His Love in 1984, and Bailey’s Grammy-winning record Triumph in 1986.
Woolfolk also performed saxophone on Tracie Spencer’s self-titled album from 1988 and Phil Collins’ Dance Into the Light from 1996.
