Priscilla Tolkien’s cause of death has not been stated yet but according to reports, she died from a short illness.
Priscilla Mary Anne Reuel Tolkien was born on June 18, 1929, and passed away on February 28, 2022. She was J. R. R. Tolkien’s fourth and youngest child and his only daughter.
Priscilla was a long-awaited child for Tolkien and his wife, and she was born in their home at 22 Northmoor Road in Oxford, soon before the pair moved to their new home at 20 Northmoor Road in 1930.
At the age of fourteen, she had an active role in the production of The Lord of the Rings by typing out several early chapters for her father. In 1951, she received her B.A. in English from Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford.
In the fourth draft of The Lord of the Rings, Frodo Baggins was titled Bingo Bolger-Baggins, after a family of toy bears owned by Priscilla.
From late July to mid-August 1955, she accompanied her father on a two-week vacation in Italy. After that, she moved to the outskirts of Oxford, but she still saw her parents on a regular basis, and she began working as a probation officer in the city.
Priscilla Tolkien was also a social worker. In August 1973, Tolkien wrote his final letter to Priscilla.
