Luis Severino is a Dominican baseball pitcher who now pitches for the New York Yankees in Major League Baseball (MLB). In 2015, he made his MLB debut. Following a disappointing year in 2016, he emerged as one of the league’s finest pitchers in 2017, earning All-Star honours and finishing third in the American League Cy Young Award voting. In 2018, he was also selected as an All-Star. Due to shoulder issues, he missed the majority of the 2019 season and all of the 2020 season.

On December 26, 2011, Severino signed with the New York Yankees. That year, he made his professional debut for the Yankees 1 of the Dominican Summer League (DSL). At the Charleston RiverDogs, his fastball velocity hit 97 mph (156 km/h).

Severino was chosen the Yankees’ fourth starter after Spring Training. The Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 3–2 on April 13, 2017, with Severino striking out a career-high 11 batters in seven innings.

Severino was selected to start the 2017 American League Wild Card Game, however, he was removed after giving up three earned runs in one-third of an inning, tying for the shortest postseason effort by a Yankees pitcher.

Severino was chosen the Yankees’ Opening Day starter on March 17, 2018. On February 15, 2019, Severino agreed to a four-year, $40 million contract extension that included a $12.25 million club option for a fifth season.
