Maria was the daughter of a Russian billionaire, she was discovered dead together with her father, Sergey Protosenya, and mother, only days after another tycoon’s family was murdered.
Maria, 18, was found dead together with her father, Sergey Protosenya, 55, and her mother Natalya, 53 in their opulent Spanish property.
Investigators are attempting to figure out if it was a murder-suicide or a hit on the family of a wealthy businessman. Protosenya, who was worth over £333 million, allegedly hanged himself in the courtyard without leaving a suicide note.
According to accounts, Natalia and Maria were chopped to death in their beds with an ax in the Lloret de Mar area of Spain’s Costa Brava.
After the couple’s teenage son, who was in France at the time, expressed concerns, police discovered the terrible sight. He is alleged to have phoned authorities after being unable to reach his family on Tuesday.
Officers went to the villa and discovered Protosenya deceased outdoors. The bodies of his wife and teen daughter were discovered in the residence by the police.
According to reports, the Russian family was registered at their Lloret de Mar property but resided in France and used the Spanish residence as a second home.
Protosenya earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Moscow University before working for the natural gas corporation Novatek.
