Shane Austin Baz is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays in the United States. In 2021, he made his MLB debut.

Baz was born to Raj, a Lebanese father, and Tammy, an American mother. His father was born in Beirut, Lebanon, and played soccer there until he immigrated to the United States when he was 15 years old.

Baz went to Tomball’s Concordia Lutheran High School. As a sophomore, his 1.06 ERA was accompanied by 46 strikeouts in 23 innings pitched.

Baz reportedly agreed to play college baseball for Texas Christian University (TCU). A top prospect in the 2017 MLB draft, the Pittsburgh Pirates selected him with the 12th overall pick. After the draft, he agreed to terms with the Pirates and signed a contract.
