Brett Maverick Phillips is a Major League Baseball outfielder for the Tampa Bay Rays in the United States. He has played for the Milwaukee Brewers and Kansas City Royals in Major League Baseball.
Phillips grew up in Seminole, Florida, and attended Seminole High School. In the year 2012, he graduated.
Phillips was drafted in the sixth round of the 2012 MLB draft by the Houston Astros. Rather than play collegiate baseball at North Carolina State University, he signed with the Astros.
Phillips made his professional debut in 2012, hitting.251 in 54 games with the Gulf Coast Astros of the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League.
In 2013, he split time between the Rookie-level Appalachian League’s Greeneville Astros and the Class A Midwest League’s Quad Cities River Bandits, appearing in 41 games and hitting .242/.347/.331 in 157 at-bats.
Phillips returned to the Quad Cities in 2014 and was promoted to the Lancaster JetHawks of the Class A-Advanced California League after posting an on-base plus slugging (OPS) of .883 and 13 home runs in 103 games with the team.
Phillips spent the first half of the season with the Quad Cities. He concluded the season with a.310/.375/.529 slash line and 17 home runs, earning him the title of Minor League Player of the Year for the Astros following the season.
